202 High Street, Exeter, Devon

  • This is an impressive inn adjacent to the Guildhall. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include the Victorian author Charles Dickens and a red haired woman, accoutred in a splendid gown. Dickens is, locals knew, to have spent some time in the city, garnering information for his novels. Although he makes infrequent appearances, observers describe him as a tall man with whiskers. The female ghost, people have claimed, to be a former barmaid of many years ago who died at the pub in odd circumstances. During the night, on many occasions, the gin optic has run itself dry when she has been present.
