15 Longbridge Road, Barking, Essex

  • This Victorian pub in Longbridge Road, near Barking railway station opened in 1870 and was run by Davy & Co. from 1910 until very recently. It is now under new ownership. According to an article in the Barking & Dagenham Post, from 2011, this pub is haunted by the ghost of a little girl. One morning in 2009, before opening time, a security engineer was servicing the pub's alarm system and had been down in the cellar for some time. He eventually came up the stairs and said that he had got lost in the maze of rooms that made up the basement area, but had been shown the way out by a little girl. The engineer was shocked when he learned that there was no such child in the building at that time. On another occasion, a little boy who was waiting in the manager's office was found to be sitting in the dark. When asked why, he said that a girl had come in and turned the lights off. Again, there was no one in the building that answered her description.
