Haytor Vale, Near Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot

  • This was once a main coaching inn en route to the West Country. The pub is named after nearby Haytor Rock which is almost 1,500 feet above sea level. The name derives from the Old English “torr” meaning a rock or rocky hill. The haunting of this village pub relates to a domestic rumpus that ended in murder. Legend has it that a woman called Belinda was having an affair with a visiting coachman. The coachman’s wife discovered the situation and she killed her rival in love. Belinda’s ghost is still haunts the inn.
