Binsey, Oxford, Oxfordshire

  • At the end of a winding, narrow lane is the Perch, a magnificent 17th century thatched and yellow stone built inn near Port Meadow, England’s largest and oldest continuous meadow. A Royal Navy petty officer, who was a regular customer at the Perch for some years, fell into serious debt, with drowned himself in the River Thames. Now, his ghost is often seen standing in the bar, with an outstretched hand trying to get a pint. Recently, there have been reports of shadowy people haunting the dining room accompanied by strange sounds. These sounds are voices, possibly in a foreign language. However, there is no consistency.
