22- 23 Spon Street, Coventry, West Midlands

  • One of the oldest pubs in Coventry, the Old Windmill now presents as a fine example of early Victorian pubs, painted white with green window frames. It appears that some of the earlier proprietors have not left the building. According to the Spirit Team UK, several previous licensees still make an appearance as ghosts. For the most part, they are benign, although one of them tried pushing an employee into the fireplace. The pub is on Spon Street, an area of trading, watch making and weaving since the 12th century. A Spon Street expression “Sent to Coventry” recalls the hostile reception given to English Civil War prisoners who were confined in the 14th century parish church of St John the Baptist
