  • An early Victorian style, white painted inn with black corner stones, the Old Ship has a large boulder standing immediately outside the building. It weighs about two hundred weight. However, it is uncertain from where it originated. However, it plays a large part in the haunting of the Old Ship. At one time, the boulder people used as a mounting block for equestrians. During the 19th century, one man was using it to mount his horse when he fell backwards, cracking open his skull. He was seriously injured. He died some hours later in the Old Ship. Often his ghost is viewed, standing near the old block with a look of horror upon his face. In the 17th century, near to the Old Ship, a site people used as a plague pit where bodies were buried without ceremony. Several mysterious black figures appear inside the pub, with maintained to be ghosts from that period.
