  • There has been a building on the site since 1580 that became an inn during the 1860s, with where there is still a working bread oven. The inn exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include two ghosts, a woman with a green face and another woman in Victorian dress. Once there was a Tavern Clock at the Newlands that people used by villagers, tradesmen and stagecoach drivers, because of the Clock Tax. This was a tax placed on portable timepieces in 1797, with the sum imposed on watches was ten shillings for gold and two shillings and sixpence for silver.
