  • Raglan was a general who served in the Peninsular War as military secretary to the Duke of Wellington. He was Commander-in-Chief of the British troops in the Crimea in 1854, with thought to be one of the most ineffective military leaders ever. The Lord Raglan, a country inn, exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include ‘Flasker’ Beasley, a farmer- cum-smuggler and a member of the Hawkhurst Gang. Beasley had been a customer at this pub. Observers describe him as a short fat man wearing a black hat. It may be he earned his nickname from the leather or metal case. The case people used for carrying gunpowder that he wore on his belt.
