Monkton Villa Monkton Village, Jarrow, Tyne and Wear

  • Named after one of England’s greatest heroes, this Lord Nelson is not an ancient building. However, it built on the site of a previous pub, also the Lord Nelson. It has a mock Tudor façade, which was typical of pub architecture in the 1920s. Over the years, there have been stories of a ghostly figure that makes an appearance. Observers describe him as looking nothing like what one would expect of a ghost. He is wearing modern clothing with an open neck shirt and light coloured trousers. The phantom , witnesses see, behind the bar counter, to walk from one end to the other and then disappear.
