  • Over 300 years ago, a previous proprietor took the life of a maidservant at this inn. He then buried away in a wall. Since then, witnesses have seen the ghost of Mary Brown (the servant) haunting the pub, by both day and night. There are many secret panels. There are hollow walls here. People have claimed that this where the phantom lurks. There is an ancient stone trough near the Kingsbridge. There is water coming from the old Leper’s Well. This water is famous throughout the area for its miraculous healing powers. The area exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include apparitions of pilgrims who died here, obviously too late for efficacious treatment.
