  • The Kings Head has good views of passing ships including those of the ghostly variety. Lost on 13 February 1724 the phantom of Lady Lovibond of Deal appears in full sail once every 50 years. When the captain took his bride on board the sailors all muttered “bad luck’’ - not just a woman on board but the previous girlfriend of the first mate. Driven mad with jealousy, the mate deliberately rammed the ship into the Goodwin Sands and all 50 lives were lost. Locals have seen the phantoms of the liner Montrose and the Shrewsbury, a man of war, seen out at sea. The Kings Head exhibits ghostly manifestations including a man wearing an old-fashioned cricketing outfit complete with tasselled cap.
