Monkton Farleigh, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire

  • A lovely aged pub built of stone, Reports claim it to be one of the most haunted pubs in the county. One is an elderly monk, with a sense of humour, who plays wicked tricks on both residents and staff. Much of this includes spiriting away important items of dress or tools for work. Now, there people hear the sound of muffled laughter. Many years ago, a woman was travelling in a coach, which crashed into the side of the pub, fatally injuring her. Although she has rarely , witnesses saw, , her cries echo throughout the building. During renovation, a huge inglenook fireplace was discovered, which concealed a strange key. Although it had no apparent purpose in the hotel, those who held it said it gave off a powerful aura of evil. In the 1880s, the area was famous for mining Bath stone. A dispute with the miners led to an inquiry held at the King’s Arms. The miners felt that there had been an injustice, with one dropped dead, probably from a stroke caused by anger. He still haunts the road between the mine and the King’s Arms.
