East Street, Whitburn, South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear

  • At one time in its recent history, the Jolly Sailor became infested with ghosts. An anxious licensee called in a psychic investigative team, which concluded that it was indeed occupied by several ghosts. They were, however, unable to give much detail. A cleaner, working at this 18th century coaching inn, came face to face with an apparition. She was so terrified she fled and refused to return. There has also been much in the way of poltergeist activity and other curious happenings. There have been reports over many years of a Green Lady appearing. However, little has been recorded.
