Whitby Road

  • With history going back over two centuries, the Falcon was one of the main 19th century coaching inns between Whitby and Scarborough. This large grey-stone building was once the shooting lodge of Lord Derwent and the old stables are still apparent. A number of ghosts from the 19th century have taken up residence here with witnesses reporting black shapes moving along corridors and the frequent sound of disembodied footsteps. One apparition is that of an elderly woman that manifests sitting at a table as though waiting for service but when anyone goes near she looks up and disappears. Poltergeist activity has also been reported including the unplugging of electric kettles that have been set to boil and locked lavatory doors opening and closing.
