60 Wilcot Road, Pewsey, Wiltshire

  • A lovely old inn from the early Victorian period, with inside are beams and log fires. A series of wicked poltergeists haunt the pub with a diabolical sense of humour. Curious articles release themselves from where they are fixed and an old sailor’s hat soars across the room, occasionally into the fire. It then subsequently reappears, hanging on the wall. One small girl was hit on the head by a flying mustard pot, whilst a pistol, fixed to the wall, persists in dropping to the ground. The Pewsey White Horse Hill figure is on a steep slope of Pewsey Hill, a mile south of the village. This figure was cut in 1937, replacing one from about 1785.
