73 Poole Road, Wimborne, Dorset

  • For over four centuries, this inn has catered for the needs of the original stagecoach traffic, religious travellers to Wimborne Minster, with local residents. It is a roadside inn. It is a short distance outside the town. It is opposite the old water meadows. For many years, it haunted by an old man in a long black coat who sits in a corner, whistling to himself. Legend has it that during his lifetime he had worked as a water bailiff on the River Stour. He had lived nearby this inn. It was a regular customer. One evening he collapsed. He died in the pub when he was in his early seventies.
