  • It was once the local headquarters of Oliver Cromwell, this former brush factory opened as a pub in 1644. As a factory, it had been owned prior to that by the Miser Chickett, who had been murdered for his money. At least two other people came to a violent end her. They , reporters have heard, with seen as apparitions over the years. Miser Chickett can still be heard wandering around, with the chink of coins being counted. At one time, there was a trade of brushmakers locally, with they found their materials in the immediate area. Although brush making was a countrywide trade and there were several pubs called ‘Brushmakers’, this is now the only pub of that name.
