14 South Street, Wool, Wareham, Dorset

  • It is haunted by a male ghost, Geoffrey. The bear has long been associated with the heraldry of aristocratic families. When it appears as a pub name, people usually prefix it with ‘black’ or ‘brown’. Often it refers to the barbarous sport of bear baiting. The Oldham Act finally banned this so-called sport in 1836. This hotel exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include a noisy spectre that bangs doors three times a week, almost to the minute. No one has been able to track it down. However, Reports claim it to be the ghost of a naughty boy who lived at the pub many years ago.
