  • The acorn was often used by proprietors as a visual sign for an inn. It shows the proprietor’s intention to turn it into a mighty oak from small beginnings. When this Acorn Inn opened almost 400 years ago it was known as the King’s Head. It is stone built with beamed ceilings and other period features. It is also home to a long dead highwayman who lived nearby. He had previously been a customer here before his unfortunate demise at the end of a rope. His ghost appears regularly at this inn wearing his uniform as a highwayman of a long black cloak and tricorne hat.
