  • As a pub name, “The Oak Tree”, is usually associated with the flight of Charles II after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. To escape he hid in an oak tree with Colonel William Carless. This Royal Oak is an ancient inn. A listed building that restorers had to rebuild almost completely, after a fire ripped through it. It exhibits ghostly manifestations including a small man seen wandering through the employee accommodation and disappearing into a wall. Locals have given him the pet name of ‘George’. Employees strongly believe him to be the same man who appears merely as a pair of staring eyes in one of the bedrooms.
