19 Dalton Bank Rd, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

  • A rather aggressive former proprietor named Mr Black, as well as being the ghostly residence of several children haunts this fine stone built country pub. The children are believed to be the shades of those who lost their lives in a nearby factory fire in 1818. The badly burnt corpses were placed in the inn cellar, which acted as a temporary mortuary. Eighteen children aged between nine and 18 had died in the fire at Atkinson’s Mill. At that time workers, which included young children, all lived on the premises above the workshops. These apparitions involve a faint figure witnessed in an upstairs window, with strange shadows darting across the cold cellar. This pub was investigated recently by a psychic investigation team. They confirmed there are curious paranormal events taking place, particularly in the cellar.
