  • The Roe Cross Inn has history from the 17th century, having been built in 1616 and owned by the Hollingworth family. They were Lords of the Manor of Hollingworth in Longdendale from the mid-thirteenth century to the early 18th century. In 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie set up camp behind the inn, with the building people used as their headquarters. The Roe Cross exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include the ghost of Mary Hollingworth of the aristocratic family. She manifests near the four centuries old fireplace, wearing a long dress. Mary , witnesses report, as being a happy looking ghost, with most people simply ignore her.
