Acklington, Morpeth, Northumberland

  • Originally a small farmhouse, it became a hotel in the 1890s. During the Second World War, there was an RAF airfield two miles away. This pub was the main meeting place for pilots for recreation. Some are still here as resident pub ghosts. There has been considerable amount of poltergeist activity in the pub, with tables rocking back and forth before rolling over. These phenomena are accompanied by strange disembodied voices from the men’s lavatory. An occasional sight of an elderly woman in 1920s style of clothing has been recorded. She is believed to be the ghost of a previous proprietor. Curious shapes have been observed throughout the building during the night. Reports believe that these are the ghosts of the pilots. These chaps had used the Railway Inn. However, they never made it home from active duty.
