282 Plumstead High Street, Woolwich (SE18), Greater London

  • This was the scene for the last public hanging of a boy aged nine for scrumping plums from a nearby orchard in the 1700s. His unhappy ghost has haunted the pub since. There were many other hangings at this pub, as People used it as a magistrate’s court as well as a coroner’s court. The 300 years old pub was also employed as a prison for men on their way to London for trial or execution. Phantoms still roam, with there has been poltergeist activity reported. One corner of the pub remains forever cold, with an electrician was locked in the cellars, despite safety handles on the door.
