9 - 13 St John Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire

  • This may well be the oldest hotel in Salisbury. The building dates from to house the masons and builders working on Salisbury Cathedral from 1220. There is history that stones for that cathedral were cut on the present site of the hotel. Parts of the King’s Arms still show some of the original stonework and ironwork, which would make it eight centuries old. Both Charles 1st and Charles 2nd stayed here at separate times, both using the same room. This particular room is affected by a poltergeist opening and closing the door, with moving furniture around. Employees have reported having strong sensations of being watched as they work, although no one is visible. Psychic mediums and sensitives who have stayed here, say it exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a woman and a highwayman, who died in an upper floor room.
