Gulval, Penzance, Cornwall

  • Once this was a fine manor house before becoming a hotel; since the change in use, there have been sightings of a former housekeeper from the original manor. Wearing a long black dress with a large white collar, she regularly manifests making her rounds. The sound of rattling keys accompanies her. In several of the bedrooms, there have been peculiar sounds when the rooms have been empty. Numerous women have reported something stroking them during the night, although no one was with them. There have long been accounts that the hotel exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include John Carter, self-styled ‘King of Prussia’. With his brothers, Harry and Charles, he organised a profitable smuggling business from Penzance between 1771. 1807.
