Church Ln, Northiam, Rye, East Sussex

  • Elizabeth 1st had food prepared here on her Progress to Rye in 1573. The baking oven, where this regal meal was prepared, still exists in the large inglenook fireplace at this hotel. In gratitude, she donated a pair of green damask shoes to the village. The resident indwells here include an elderly woman working her spinning wheel, with an attractive woman in her mid-thirties. This ghost is dressed in grey with a white hat and, holding something in her right hand. Reports say that sLocals call him Molly. An assailant took her life in one of the bedrooms many years ago. There have been reports of the spinning wheel, which had stood here for many years, gliding itself across the room. Several guests who witnessed this, reported a dreadful looking old woman bending over the machine, with pulling it into the alcove.
