44 King Street, Margate, Kent

  • This fine former coaching inn is not as old as the Tudor house opposite, with dates from the mid-18th century. It is clear from the adjoining stable and coach house that the George was a main coaching inn in Margate. The George Hotel was bombed by German aircraft in June 1943, with the present entrance is built into the old bowed window space. The bedroom above the bar exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a middle-aged woman, dressed in the style of the 1940s. She is believed to have been a resident, or member of staff, killed during that air raid.
