  • Not simply human ghosts in residence here, there are also phantom cats to accompany them. However, that is sufficient for any dog that comes across them to flee in complete disarray. During a battle between smugglers and revenue men long ago, John McKenzie, a young officer, was seriously wounded by one of the Aldington Gang, , locals knew, as the Blues. The leader of the Blues, Cephas Quested, was captured and hanged. The ghost of McKenzie haunts the George Hotel, where his body had been brought after he was wounded. The inn is 200 years old. However, parts of it have history from 1420 and a previous proprietor carried the unfortunate name of Lepper.
