  • There is a gruesome story of murder attached to th exhibits ghostly manifestations, pub. Something dreadful haunts the corridors and a room where a young girl , an assailant took this person’s life, by a highwayman in the 18th century. There are sounds of heavy breathing, accompanied by the sound of a dead body being dragged along a landing. At the beginning of the 18th century, there is a reference to this pub being called the Cut a Feather Inn. It was run by Bridget Smith. The ghost that haunts the Feathers is , locals knew, to be a young woman called Charlotte. One version of the story maintains her husband or lover was a highwayman. He was attacked and killed in the stables behind the pub. On seeing his body, she ran upstairs to her room and took her own life. Other versions maintain an assailant took her life by another highwayman when she spurned his advances. It is claimed that the last witch to be executed in Engl. It was at Pocklington. She still haunts the town.
