3, The Colonnade, Madeira Dr, Brighton, East Sussex

  • Adjacent to the Theatre Royal, the Colonnade Bar exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include the Grey Lady, who sits in a corner wearing a grey chiffon dress. Sobservers describe him by those who have seen as her as having a sweet face. However, she has no feet or ankles. The ghost of the nineteenth century French actor, Sarah Bernhardt, has a habit of walking down corridors at the Theatre Royal. She pushes people out of the way if they step in front of her. The wall into which she disappears is a bricked up doorway where her dressing room had been. The artiste, Danny La Rue, always maintained that Bernhardt had been trying on his wigs whilst he was on stage.
