Blackwell Grange

  • It is a impressive hotel outside Darlington. It has history from the 18th century as a country house. Built for wealthy industrialist George Allan in 1710 it is now Grade II listed. During his sojourn and pillaging in Scotland, the Duke of Cumberland acquired a painting of a woman in tartan that he brought to this building in 1746. Since that time, someone has destroyed or lost the painting. However, the Scottish woman still haunts the building as a ghost. She haunts the hotel in revenge. The revenge is for what Cumberland did to her family at Culloden.
