High Street,

  • Originally, a 12th century manor house, the Mosborough Hall is a fine stone built hotel with a Gothic tale of dissembling and murder. This account of the present ghosts has history from the 1600s, when a governess had an affair with the squire who owned it and fell pregnant. This wicked squire promised her many fine things including money and a cottage but he insisted she would have to wait until his finances improved. She threatened him by saying that she would inform his wife and there was a ferocious argument. Shortly afterwards, he went to her room and slit her throat. The abandoned governess now haunts the building as a tall white ghost and a dark figure haunts the lower floor. People have claimed that this is the ghost of an executed murderer and indeed possibly the squire.
