Lake, Sourton,

  • Over 600 years old, this is a most attractive town pub. Years ago, a small girl fell from a spiral staircase and died. Employees can now hear a child crying at pub closing time. This has terrorised numerous people staying here. Nearby was one of the most feared bogs in England. It is now without water. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include the ghosts of countless travellers who became lost, only to die there in the mud and water. One of the most famous was Bengie Geare, a former mayor of Okehampton. The apparition of Geare appears riding on a black pony near the site of that bog.
