Potters Pond, Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire

  • A ghostly cavalier - The building has history from 1145, with built above a 5,000 years old pagan burial ground, the Ancient Ram Inn is the oldest building in Wotton-Under-Edge. There has been an inn on this site since the 13th century. The Ram has been the setting for a variety of paranormal events, including diverse apparitions, eccentric amorphous shapes caught in photographs, poltergeist activity, disembodied voices, footsteps and severe temperature anomalies. The proprietor, John Humphries, has been at the Ram for many years, with he believes it to be haunted by at least three ghosts in the Bishop’s Room alone. These include the ghost of a Cavalier in English Civil War uniform, a young woman called Elizabeth and a man, Tom. A psychic diviner advised Mr Humphries that both the Cavalier and Elizabeth had been murdered and her body was buried in a now blocked off cellar. In the Beaufort Room , witnesses have seen, the apparition of a witch and a large black cat. In the weaver’s attic, a former innkeeper’s daughter, Nora, , an assailant took this person’s life, with again her ghostly presence has been confirmed by the Bristol Diviners. This pub sits upon an ancient burial mound. Human sacrifice took place on mound. It marks a point on a ley line.
